University of Hull
Graphic installations for student flats
Scope of Service:
Brand and Experience
Two accommodation blocks
We can help make change happen
Improving the accommodation offer at the existing on-campus Taylor Court flats and strengthening branding throughout. These were the priorities set out for SoVibrant from the team at the University of Hull to make the development more appealing to students looking for housing. The work comprised the redecoration of 48 bedrooms redecorated, six communal kitchen areas, six corridors and three floors in each of the two blocks.
Making the best use of the space available was the real challenge here as well as improving the number, and layout, of the communal areas, these being especially limited in the current format. The layout of the existing space did not encourage students to get together, which meant there was no real sense of community.
In addition, the refurbishment offered the perfect opportunity to update the furniture throughout the development. Another challenge for SoVibrant was to ensure that storage capacity was maximised and fairly distributed amongst students.
From a visual perspective, the design solution had to create a welcoming feel and establish the brand identity that was specific to the University of Hull at key opportunities throughout the buildings.
All the work completed linked in to the new brand identity and this can be developed in the future through way-finding and graphic installations around the wider campus.
SoVibrant delivered what was promised in the time constraints given. With this project being a pilot scheme for the oncoming year, there are plans for it to be reviewed at year-end, prior to the roll-out of further phases.
