The Bonding Warehouse update – another prestigious win!

Success for SoVibrant project at 2015 Yorkshire Property Industry Awards 

The SoVibrant team attended the 2015 Yorkshire Property Industry Awards dinner held at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, alongside client Grantside, and was successful in winning the Restoration and Regeneration category award for the Bonding Warehouse, York.

Almost 500 of the top developers, investors, architects and advisers from across the region gathered at the prestigious event, hosted by broadcaster Colin Murray.

Judges said, that to turn this into a usable space again was a considerable task and its restoration improves the York Waterfront area.

The Background

The Bonding Warehouse is an iconic Grade II listed building located on the prestigious banks of the River Ouse in the centre of York. Derelict for a number of years, the flood-damaged building was in a state of severe disrepair, having previously been used as a nightclub and bar and left derelict for a number of years.

SoVibrant was commissioned as lead designer on the redevelopment project and to provide a coordinated design service. This involved the comprehensive refurbishment and extension of this historically significant building and creation of a new brand identity and marketing CGI for the development.

The Challenge

To work in tandem with developers Grantside, and a number of specialist sub-contractors to create a 21st century multi-use and sustainable development, incorporating both luxury residential apartments and high-class commercial office accommodation.

To work closely with City of York council and English Heritage to overcome a number of complex conservation and planning issues whilst preserving the historic fabric and features of the building.

To coordinate civil and structural engineering specialists to provide an effective flood defence solution for the site

To provide a comprehensive cross platform brand solution, incorporating interior schemes, signage and marketing collateral

The Results

A successful combination of historic refurbishment and new build development, the scheme has deservedly gone on to win several awards and accolades, has attracted fresh business to the city centre, and has resulted in York’s first £1m luxury penthouse apartment sale.
